Rediscovering Religious Human Rights in Myanmar: a Myanmar Christian Perspective
Ciin Sian Khai
Unlike the Monarchical period, there is incontrovertible discrimination on the basis of religion and race in Myanmar society. The dawn of Christianity in the country was the disintegrating point in the Buddhist history. There is an amalgamation of Christianity and colonial ideology as Christian missionaries were part of the colonial British rulers who suppressed Buddhist. Several Churches and Schools were established and Christians were under the mercy wings of Britishers. Today, the Buddhists majority in the country degrades the image of Christians as traitors of the country and Christianity is alleged as political tool for the expansion of Western culture and colonial power. There exist theocracies where one religion is given preferential treatment and is the central feature of political life. This book is a humble attempt to unveil the role of Myanmar Churches in rediscovering religious human rights in Myanmar.
