Production of PhD graduates is of vital importancefor new knowledge economy in Malaysia. Its core ideais that future economic performance will be closelybased on the skill and innovation level of the laborforce, underpinned by effective research and R&Dcapacity. Concern over the potential shortages ofdoctorates in Malaysian workforce, Malaysia?s actionplan to increase numbers of doctorates within thenext 15 years has led to the brainchild of theprogram named MyBrain15. MyBrain15 was initiatedin the year of 2009 aimed to increase the nationalcompetency and capacity for higher level research andinnovation by increasing the number of doctorateholders from 8,000 in year 2009 to 60,000 in 2023 (an increment of 8 to 12 percent per year).
